Keep It Cooler Before Flight

A custom-fit PA-46 glareshield mat designed to reduce cockpit and cabin heat before every flight. By blocking solar heat buildup, it helps protect your avionics suite from excessive temperatures and allows your air-conditioning system to cool the aircraft more quickly once started.

The result is a more comfortable flight deck, improved passenger comfort, and less pressure to rush through pre-flight procedures just to get the air conditioning online.

Designed by a career aviator and hand-crafted in the USA, each mat is built specifically for the PA-46 to provide a precise fit, exceptional durability, and professional appearance. Installation couldn't be easier: it lays in place on the glareshield in seconds — no straps, no hooks, no wrestling a cover over the windshield on a windy ramp — and comes off just as fast. Compact and lightweight, it folds up small enough to stow in the cockpit map pocket.

ON THE RAMP

Heat is the first thing fighting you on a hot ramp.

Park a PA-46 in the summer sun and the black glareshield turns into a heat sink — soaking up solar energy and pouring it into your cabin and straight onto your avionics. Because the air conditioning recirculates cabin air, it can take a long time to bring a baking flight deck down to a comfortable level.

And that heat shows up at the worst time: during your before-start, start, and after-start flows, when you want to be calm and methodical — not rushing a checklist in a sweltering cockpit.

WHY IT WORKS

Shield the biggest source of cabin heat.

CoolMatz lays over your glareshield and shields the single biggest source of cabin heat. The result is a flight deck that's measurably cooler before you even climb in.

Less heat in the cabin

Owners report cabin temperatures down by as much as 20°F. With less heat to fight, your A/C catches up fast — cool air typically within a minute or two of engine start.

Easier on your avionics

Less heat reaches the avionics stack, taking load off the cooling fans that work hardest on a hot ramp.

Calmer checklists

A cooler deck means you're running critical procedures without fighting the heat — fewer distractions, fewer hurried mistakes.

BUILT BY AN AVIATOR

It came from the cockpit, not a boardroom.

CoolMatz wasn't dreamed up in a boardroom. It came from the cockpit. Tom Rau has spent the majority of his life in aviation — a decorated Navy pilot, then an airline captain, and today a flight instructor and mentor who trains new PA-46 owners.

He built the first mats to solve a problem he and the owners he trains live every hot summer day on the ramp, and sent a few to friends. The orders followed — because it works.

FROM OWNERS

Owners who fly with it.

Fits like a glove, looks great, and works great. On the hottest days it's cool to the touch right on top of the black glareshield — and the panel underneath stays cool too.

— Ken · M350

Fits perfectly. I fly mostly around Florida, and after hours parked in the sun it keeps the cockpit far more bearable between flights — and it's a lot more cost-effective than the antenna trick people used to use.

— Rob · PA-46 owner

I don't need the science. White shirts and white concrete all feel cooler in the sun, and this is the same idea — all I care about is that less heat ends up in the cabin.

— Wes · PA-46 owner

The CoolMat doesn't bake the windshield the way the old reflective shades do. It just keeps the heat out of the cabin.

— Kareem · PA-46 owner

Does a brilliant job of keeping the cabin cooler in the blazing sun of south Texas — I use it during quick-turn fuel stops too. Great product and big bang for the buck. Thanks for bringing this to market for us PA-46 drivers!

— Greg · Meridian

In Texas heat with the airplane parked outside, my uncovered black panel hit 167°F — with the CoolMat the same panel measured 117°F on a thermal device. As a CFI I use it on every lunch stop away from home, and it lives in my flight bag.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Will it fit my aircraft?

CoolMatz is custom-made for PA-46 / M-class aircraft, and each mat is cut to your specific model. Flying something else? We can still build one for you: make a template of your glareshield, send it to us, and we'll craft a CoolMatz to fit your aircraft. Just tell us what you fly in the notes on your order and Tom will follow up with the details.

How does it keep the cockpit cooler?

It shields your black glareshield — the biggest source of cabin heat — so less solar heat is absorbed by it and the avionics suite beneath it, which act as a heat sink and radiate that heat into the flight deck and cabin. Keeping this area cooler also reduces the workload on the avionics cooling fans. Owners report cabins as much as 20°F cooler, and the A/C catching up within a minute or two of start. No mystery to it: a light-colored mat over a black glareshield keeps heat out of your cabin the same way a white shirt feels cooler than a black one in the sun.

What's included in the price?

$199 includes the embroidered CoolMatz logo and free shipping and handling within the continental U.S. Want your tail number embroidered? Add the $50 N-number option.

Do you ship outside the continental U.S.?

Yes — we've shipped CoolMatz to owners overseas. Shipping outside the continental U.S. isn't included in the $199, because international postage, insurance, duties, customs fees, and taxes can cost more than the mat itself. Place your order as usual and Tom will quote the actual shipping cost to your address before any payment is arranged — nothing is charged until you've agreed to the total.

How do I pay?

Submit your order here and Tom will personally reach out to confirm details and arrange payment. (No online checkout — every order is handled personally.)

How long does it take?

Each mat is hand-made to order; Tom will confirm timing when he reaches out.
